Ernest Boyd
Cadiz, KY

Ernest Boyd, born on August 14, 1943, grew up in Lincoln Park, Michigan. In the late fifties, he began making archery related items in leather. He became a part time artisan in 1973 and continues now after his retirement from being a professional fire fighter for 26 years. Self taught and highly influenced by Joe Mills. He now creates hunting bags, powder horns and other related accoutrements along with an occasional flintlock rifle or smoothbore.

Ernest states that his bags and powder horns are his interpretation of the hundreds of original bags and horns he studied. He tries to recreate bags and horns that the common man would have carried. Mark Baker, Joe Mills, David Dobbs, John Curry, Billy Heck and many others have pieces created by Ernest. He won first place for his hunting bag and second place for his powder horn at the Dixon Gun Fair in 1993. He also won second place for his hunting bag at the same event in 1992. His work includes a special horn for the Fort de Chartres raffle in November of 2002. His work appears in Mark Baker
