Artisan Bio | B. Paul Wenzel is a master scrimshaw artist (etching on fossil ivory). In addition, he pursues many types of traditional folk art of the fur trade era. Paul has devoted 30 years to perfecting his scrimshaw "the Whalers' art". It has been called the only original American folk art, excluding Native American crafts. Paul_??s personal expressions are intimate and concentrated in a small space. Paul's subject matter is of historical interest or wildlife. The scrimshaw artworks are standing pieces, as well as decorated objects _?? powder horns, knife handles, and jewelry. The fossil ivories incorporated in scrimshaw and jewelry are wooly mammoth, mastodon, and fossil walrus. Paul_??s artwork also includes his traditionally brain-tanned deer and elk embellished with his painstaking naturally dyed and hand-sewn quill embroidery, as well as one-of-a kind silverwork, unique pieces in the style of historical trade silver.
