Nice pair of English officer’s pistols by Bumford. Bumford is probably best known for his painted trade gun in the Colonial Williamsburg collection. The 16 bore barrels are in the mid-18th century style, round with three stages and swamped muzzles. Marked “LONDON” with Bumford’s “IB” maker’s mark and private London proofs. In original flint condition, the round face locks are marked “BUMFORD” and function nicely. The top post on one cock is missing the tip. Engraved brass furniture including military sideplates with panoplies of arms. Pommel caps engraved with drums and cannons. Original brass-tipped rammers. The pistols differ slightly in the pommel caps and wrist escutcheons. There is a hole in one of the caps as shown in the photo. Overall, a nice set of French and Indian War period pistols by a rather well-known maker.
