Jim is a native of northeast Iowa.
In 1965 unable to find a knife to comfortably fit his hand, Jim told a friend he was going to make one. His friend scoffed but Jim decided to try. He made one for himself and one for his friend. He has not stopped making them.
He began forging his own Damascus in 1977.
He does extensive research to make his tomahawks, knives, axes and sheaths as historically accurate as possible. Jim is especially interested in the years 1750 thru 1880.
His work has been featured in Knives Illustrated, Blade Magazine, Knife World, Muzzleloader, Black Powder Annual and La Passion des Couteaux. He also has a website at: www.damascusknives.biz
Jim was introduced to the Contemporary Longrifles Association in 2003. He is a voting member of The Knifemakers' Guild, a lifetime member of the NRA and a member of the Museum of Fur Trade in Chardron, Nebraska.
