Where is Highland County, Virginia?
Highland County is situated in the Appalachian Mountains of western Virginia, just a scenic one-hour drive from historic Staunton and a 45-minute trip from Bath County, home to the award-winning Omni Homestead Resort. The county also hosts the Maple Festival, which celebrates the area’s rich maple heritage.

Who hosts the 18th Century Trades Fair?
The Duff Family purchased Fair Lawn Farm in 1997 and restored the property to its original 1887 glory. They host an annual event at the farm, where Tim and Terry Duff, along with their family, participate in the festivities dressed in period clothing. Tim also showcases his gunsmithing skills during the event.
What can I expect when attending the event?
You’ll begin by parking in the field adjacent to the farm. Once you step onto the grounds, an 18th-century scene unfolds. The farm’s yard mimics that of an 18th-century marketplace. You can even walk around the farm, which features a gunsmithing cabin, a maple sugar house, a relaxing pond, and the original, fully restored farmhouse.
Where can I stay?
Camping is allowed at the farm, including tent camping and campers. Highland County also offers various lodging options, such as B&Bs, cabin rentals, and a motorcycle campground.
