Artisan Bio | Kathy began working as a sign painter in 1976, before the advent of computer generated vinyl lettering. Love of the art of hand lettering combined with her enthusiastic interest in history, and around 1990 she began researching and producing period signage. Many examples of her work can be seen at living history events throughout the midwestern United States. SignCraft Magazine published an article she wrote on the history of signs in 18th and 19th century North America. Kathy discovered scrimshaw and produced her first piece around 1979. Her work is widely known and recognized for it's fine detail. She has demonstrated her technique to various groups and has taught classes on scrimshaw at the Log Cabin Shop in Lodi, Ohio. Kathy now divides her artistic energies between period signage and scrimshaw, and finds them equally rewarding. |
