Artisan Bio | Dave Hasler - Americana / Historic Art / Traditional Crafts I live in rural western New York State and became interested in history, Americana, antiques, and nature since childhood. Our area is rich in early frontier settlements, old barns and homes, farms and fields, the country life.
I have been interested in art since I was young taking all the drawing and painting classes possible in high school, and majoring in art at college. I taught art for 32 years and retired 15 years ago.
My paintings and drawings in my art gallery reflect the history of our nation, the quaint country lifestyle from our past, along with Americana genres.
My artwork has been on multiple covers of the National Muzzleloading Rifle Association’s publication MUZZLE BLASTS, THE BACKWOODSMANS, as story illustrations in Muzzle Loader magazine, and also featured on several Facebook groups as the cover art. I’ve had painting in Country Living magazine and featured in several galleries in years past. I have done art shows since the early 1980’s but took a very long break when our kids came along. Now that they are both grown and I am retired I have once again taken up my artwork and tradition crafts.
I don’t get involved with many art shows anymore so I simply display and sell my work through my website and promoting on Facebook and CLA. I hope to do a few of the big CLA shows this year.
My hunting bags/shooting bags and haversacks are fun projects I greatly enjoy creating. I like having a little artistic license and tend to develop these bags/pouches on a backwoods homespun rustic basis. I feel that the common man of the period was probably not able to purchase the finer leather bags made by the local saddle maker / leatherworker so would make his own with whatever materials was available, I make the bags pus the horns and all the accoutrements.
I hope you enjoy my work in my art gallery and feel free to contact me with questions or about doing commissioned works. I draw or paint daily so please check back often to see what new creations have been posted. |
